Prof. Dr. apt. Budi Suprapti, M.Si. delivers her lecture on therapeutic strategies for CKD patients with diabetic nephropathy during the Pharmacy Expert Lecture session.
On Monday, 12 January 2026, the Diploma and Bachelor Programs in Pharmacy of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Institute of Health Sciences Bhakti Wiyata Kediri held an insightful Expert Lecture as part of its academic enrichment agenda.
The event served as an intellectual forum that connects students to leading scholars and practitioners, encouraging them to engage with contemporary developments in pharmaceutical sciences and clinical practice.
This year’s session brought attention to a highly relevant clinical issue under the theme: “Challenges and Therapeutic Management Strategies for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Patients with Diabetic Nephropathy.”
The topic was chosen in response to the growing prevalence of diabetes-related kidney complications and the increasing complexity of pharmacotherapy required to manage such conditions safely and effectively.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. apt. Budi Suprapti, M.Si. from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga.
In her presentation, she elaborated on the multilayered challenges faced by CKD patients with diabetic nephropathy, particularly concerning progressive renal impairment, risks of polypharmacy, potential drug–drug interactions, and the need for careful dose adjustments due to altered drug clearance. Within this context, the role of pharmacists becomes indispensable—not only in dispensing and monitoring medication, but also in providing patient education to enhance adherence and ensure long-term therapeutic safety.
Furthermore, the discussion emphasized the importance of individualized treatment plans tailored to clinical parameters, laboratory outcomes, and accompanying comorbidities such as hypertension and dyslipidemia. Equally highlighted was the necessity of interprofessional collaboration between physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
Beyond expanding theoretical and clinical knowledge, the event aimed to cultivate professional awareness among pharmacy students regarding the critical contributions of pharmacists in managing chronic diseases. Through initiatives such as the Expert Lecture, the Faculty of Pharmacy at IIK Bhakti Wiyata reaffirms its commitment to nurturing competent, responsive, and future-ready pharmaceutical professionals equipped to address evolving healthcare challenges.
