The existence of a COVID-19 pandemic has caused various sectors to suffer, one of which is the dental and oral health service sector. No doubt if dental and oral health services have the potential to transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus or better known as corona. Because the transmission of the virus can be through droplets / splashes of saliva, where this liquid can be sprayed in the middle of the inspection process which then sticks to the equipment used to examine the teeth.

To avoid this, the Indonesian Dentists Association (PDGI) appealed that if it is not an emergency and can still do treatment at home, then you should not need to visit dental and oral health services. Categories that are considered to be emergency include:

If it is not an emergency, it is best to postpone the plan to visit dental and oral health services. And just do personal care at home using simple methods such as gargling with salt water or taking pain medication.

In addition to the appeal, PDGI also made a number of rules related to dental and oral health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The secure protocols include:

The safe protocol is also applied at IIK BW Dental and Oral Hospital. The hospital, which was opened to the public, continued to open services even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because we are aware that the health service process must continue to run.

IIK BW Dental and Oral Hospital, in addition to opening services to the public, is also used as a practice site for students of Dentistry IIK BW during lectures. They are trained to deal with patients by going straight into the field. However, during the pandemic since last March, the practice carried out by students was temporarily postponed and diverted by online learning. During online learning, undergraduate students of Dentistry are also equipped with material for Prevention and Control of Infection, one of the goals being to be able to treat patients in any condition. Later, when the situation is conducive, students will be prepared to start to dive again at RSGM to practice treating patients and to be ready to become a reliable dentist in the future.
